Motherland Berlin SC Weekly Roundup.
It was a weekend of highs and lows for Motherland Berlin SC, as our teams experienced a range of emotions across the board.
Our Sevens team got the weekend off to a great start, securing a 4-2 victory in their final pre-season friendly against Pichanga FZ - KF. Sherifdeen Babalola netted twice, with Michael Asamoah and Ahmed Hussein also on the scoresheet. It was a strong showing as we prepare for the upcoming league season.
Unfortunately, Sunday didn’t deliver the same success. In the morning, our 1st Men’s team faced a heartbreaking 1-2 defeat to SFC Friedrichshain IV in the Tornado Sports Cup, ending our cup run. Ayodeji Fakunle, on his debut, scored our only goal in what was a tightly contested match.
Later in the evening, our Women’s team made history by playing their first-ever match against Wartenberger SC. Despite a courageous performance, the match ended in an 11-1 defeat. Christy Raymond, however, etched her name in the club’s history books by scoring the team’s first-ever goal. Even more impressive was the character our ladies showed, continuing to fight after losing a player to injury, and with no substitutes available, played two-thirds of the match with 10 players. Although the referee offered to end the game with the score tied at 1-1, the team chose to continue and finish the match on their terms, earning the respect of both opponents and spectators alike.
It was a weekend full of lessons, grit, and determination—one that leaves us excited for what lies ahead in the season!
