Match Report: Motherland Berlin SC vs SC Intermare Berlin
We kicked off our pre-season preparations with an exhilarating 4-3 victory over SC Intermare Berlin in a friendly match that highlighted our resilience and attacking prowess. Despite fielding a side with only three players from last season, our new-look squad showed immense potential in a thrilling contest.
The match began on a positive note for us as Captain Emmanuel Ekpoma calmly converted a penalty in the 9th minute, giving us an early lead. However, SC Intermare responded strongly, equalizing in the 20th minute before taking the lead with a well-placed strike in the 38th minute, ending the first half 2-1 in their favor.
SC Intermare continued their momentum at the start of the second half, extending their lead to 3-1 in the 46th minute. That goal, however, sparked a fierce response from us, as we quickly pulled one back just two minutes later, thanks to an own goal forced by relentless pressure from our attack.
As the match progressed, we grew in confidence. The introduction of substitute Henry Meli proved decisive. In the 75th minute, Meli struck a superb shot from the edge of the box to level the score at 3-3. With the momentum now firmly in our favor, we pressed for a winner.
Our persistence paid off in the 89th minute when a corner was partially cleared by the SC Intermare defense. Meli, who had positioned himself on the edge of our box, picked up the ball, embarked on a stunning solo run, dribbling past four SC Intermare players, before slotting home the winning goal to complete his brace and seal a remarkable comeback.
This hard-fought victory is a promising start to our pre-season, as we continue preparations for the upcoming campaign. We’ll look to build on this performance when we host Fortscritt Friedrichshain in Wedding next week.
